For 16 years, GlaxoSmithKline has been recognizing nonprofit organizations that have a significant impact on their communities.

This year, the healthcare company awarded the Institute for Safe Families of Philadelphia as an IMPACT Award recipient. The organization will receive $40,000 for providing access to proactive and effective healthcare services.

“The ISF is being commended for serving as a change agent and working to make families stronger, healthier, and happier,” said Mary Linda Andrews, GSK Director of Community Partnerships. “The dedicated teams of professionals and volunteers at these organizations are working in innovative ways to provide access to healthcare at a time when people need it most.”

The ISF’s mission is to prevent family violence and child abuse by strengthening families to create nurturing, healthy environments that promote children’s positive development. The organization provides services to those in the Delaware Valley and has several programs in Philadelphia hospitals, such as CHOP, St. Christopher’s, Holy Redeemer, and Einstein, to protect children from family violence, abuse, and other adverse experiences.

The organization has recently gone through a leadership transition with longtime co-director Sandy Dempsey retiring and 20-year veteran Martha Davis taking over as the ISF executive director.

To be recognized by GSK for having a ‘significant community impact’ is a great honor for our organization,” said Davis. “Basic needs are pressing during these lean economic times, and the funds provided through this award will help us to reach many families with our prevention efforts.”

Institute for Safe Families will receive their awards at a ceremony on Tuesday, December 11th at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.
